A native Washingtonian and lifelong Ward 8 resident, Sheila Bunn is an experienced, dedicated and highly motivated public servant with a proven record of achievement.  She has not only supported the Ward 8 Democrats and our local and national party financially over the years, but she’s also done the work with the Party to register voters and deliver voter education and outreach to Ward 8 voters on issues like voter access, Statehood, public health, government operations, and much more.  Sheila is an Add-On Member of the DC Democratic State Committee, a longtime member of the Ward 8 Democrats, and is involved in other Ward 8 organizations where she is focused on elevating our youth, seniors, families, and the community at large.  Sheila currently serves as the Vice President of the Bellevue Neighborhood Civic Association, 2nd Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Far SE Family Strengthening Collaborative, Co-Chair of the William O. Lockridge Community Foundation Events Committee, and most recently served as Corresponding Secretary of the Ward 8 Democrats.

Sheila wants to be the next 1st Vice President of the Ward 8 Democrats to continue her work improving and shaping Ward 8’s political landscape.  Now more than ever, we as Democrats, must work even harder to ensure our less engaged neighbors are motivated to elect Democrats who will deliver solutions to some of the most pressing issues in Ward 8 like economic development and jobs, affordable and equitable healthcare, and voter apathy.  Sheila will use her experience and knowledge to help the Ward 8 Democrats engage voters on important issues, legislation, and policy discussions such as redistricting, vote by mail and Rank Choice Voting.

Sheila brings a wealth of political and Hill/DC government experience to this illustrious body.  Professionally, she is Chief of Staff to Ward 7 Councilmember and former Mayor Vincent C. Gray.  She previously directed the Consumer Services Division at the Office of the People’s Counsel educating and assisting residents with their utility services.  In the Gray Administration, Sheila, as Deputy Chief of Staff, played a key role in implementing numerous citywide initiatives, oversaw the daily operations of the District government, and managed a $12.2 million office budget.  Prior to her District government service, Sheila had the honor of working with Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton as her chief of staff.

Sheila graduated from The American University with B.A. degree in Communication Media & Foreign Language, and holds a Master’s degree in organizational management and development from Trinity Washington University. She resides in the Bellevue community of Ward 8 with her daughter.  A proven leader, caring community advocate and forward-thinking trailblazer, Sheila Bunn stands ready and willing to serve her community and her city.
